Unusual Philippine links

BagpiperFrayed found this great portal for Philippine links the other day. Among other delights, I discovered this gentleman advertising his services. The Espiritus of Nairn, I know ‘em well.

"My name is Roy Macgregor-Esposo Espiritu, the Philippines’ first and only Filipino bagpiper to date. I am a Filipino of Scottish descent from the Macgregors of Nairn, Scotland. Growing up in a family that is well in touch with its Scottish roots, I grew up listening to the music of Scotland and the Great Highland Bagpipes."

one of those Esposo-MacGregors is Billy Esposo, Cory's media bureau handler and Copa-bigwig, who writes a column in inq7.net, he writes of his MacGregor-ness from time to time.

Interesting. There are quite a few similarities between the Scots and the Filipinos, so perhaps the Espiritus from Nairn (or the Macgregors from Manila for that matter) are not that unlikely after all. Following the Highland Clearances in the 18th century an exodus of Scots began that has never really stopped, despite the country's new-found prosperity. So you find Scots all over the place, just like Pinoys.
