As long as I have a drop of blood left, I will fight to get Argentina qualified,"
Diego Maradona
This is the last performance of my life and I will not fail you.”
Joseph Estrada
I am having trouble telling the manager of the Argentina football team and presidential candidate Estrada apart.
Both are given to histrionic statements that tie the fates of their countries to their personal destinies.
Both rely for their mass appeal on a crude and cliché-ridden populism, yet both have expensive tastes; in Erap’s case for $1,000-a-bottle Petrus wine in Diego’s for fast drugs and cars, and flashy earrings.
Both have histories of substance abuse, womanising, and gambling.
Both are sort of chubby.
Both have had well publicized run-ins with the law.
Both are viewed in their countries with a mixture of adulation and acute embarrassment.
Perhaps they should swap jobs?
They can't swap. Erap's knees are very shaky. He's used them more relentlessly than the football player. :-)
